Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has intersected up to 16 g/t gold in shallow reverse circulation (RC) drilling at Gordons Dam prospect within the Gordons Gold Project in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region of WA.
The company has received results from recent RC and aircore (AC) drilling programs at five prospects within the Gordons project.
Six RC holes for 594 metres were completed at Gordons Dam, Lady Clara and Dickens Custer prospects as well as 26 AC holes for 1,236 metres at Gordons Dam South and Gordons Dam West.
Results from Gordons Dam are particularly encouraging as high-grade primary mineralisation has been intersected for the first time within fresh porphyry rocks.
To date, primary mineralisation has been discovered from drilling over an area of about 200 metres by 200 metres with limited drilling beneath 80 metres depth.
Managing director Lorry Hughes said: “To intersect double-digit grades at depth gives us further encouragement the geological mechanisms in place at Gordons Dam are potentially favourable to host a significant gold deposit.
“We have high-grades with lower disseminated grades over substantial widths within structurally complex porphyry, intermediate and mafic rock types.
“Our understanding of the geometry and the location of the best mineralisation is unclear as our current data is insufficient to construct a predictable geological model.
“It is likely that further RC drilling plus some oriented diamond core drilling in the next phase of work will improve the geological interpretation and exploration targeting.”
Gordons Dam prospect
To date oxide gold has been discovered within clays and paleochannel sediments with associated primary mineralisation within structurally controlled mafic and porphyry rocks.
Four angled holes for 432 metres were completed at Gordons Dam to test for extensions to bedrock gold mineralisation intersected in recent AC and RC drilling.
Intersections include the following:
- 1 metre at 15.96 g/t gold within 7 metres at 3.06 g/t from 61 metres;
- 5 metres at 2.61 within 11 metres at 1.40 g/t from 49 metres; and
- 1 metre at 4.70 g/t within 2 metres at 2.48 g/t gold from 98 metres and 2 metres at 2.33 g/t within 7 metres at 0.97 g/t from 121 metres.
Gordons Dam South
At Gordons Dam South mineralisation was intersected at the end or very close to the end of hole where AC blade refusal was encountered.
Intersections include:
- 1 metre at 0.31 g/t gold from 59 metres;
- 1 metre at 0.38 g/t from 64 metres;
- 4 metres at 0.42 g/t from 50 metres, including 2 metres at 0.74 g/t from 50 metres and 1 metre at 1.14 g/t from 50 metres.
At Gordons Dam West, which is 1.5 kilometres west from Gordons Dam, two angled AC holes for 96 metres were completed.
One hole returned anomalous results from within saprolitic clays including 4 metres at 0.15 g/t from 28 metres, which included 1-metre at 0.28 g/t from 28 metres.
Follow-up AC drilling is at the advanced planning stages.
Next steps
With the company’s commitment to budgeted drilling at its Yandal Greenstone Belt projects up until the end of the year, it is likely new programs at the Gordons projects will be completed in the March 2020 quarter.
