Altech Chemicals completes stage-1 construction at HPA plant in Malaysia

Construction of the substation structure is expected to begin during November 2019 once various off-site fabrication works are complete.

Altech Chemicals Ltd (ASX:ATC) has completed stage-1 construction work at its high purity alumina (HPA) plant site in Johor, Malaysia, on time and budget.

A final site inspection was carried out by Altech with no defects or ‘punch-list’ items identified.

The stage-1 facilities have been handed over to Altech by the EPC contract consortium of SMS group and Metix, including the maintenance workshop building, all site retaining walls as well as the on-site detention (OSD) stormwater tanks at the rear of the plant site.

Completed maintenance workshop building

During the stage-1 construction, a total of 207 employees and contractors completed site safety inductions with the maximum site workforce reaching a compliment of 82.

Construction activities were completed with zero first aid or medical treatment incidents and zero lost-time injuries (LTI), which amounted to a total of 100,000 LTI-free working hours.

These results are a testament to the professionalism of the construction consortium, sub-contractors and all others engaged in the construction activities.

Site boundary retaining walls

Stage-2 engineering continues to progress with SMS group having placed orders with vendors for engineering packages covering around 50% of the long-lead items.

Completion of the packages will position SMS group to proceed to final detailed engineering of structures and piping in readiness for plant construction.

Construction of the on-site electrical substation has also begun with preliminary excavation, earthworks and the pouring of concrete foundations recently completed.
