Infrastructure group Costain lands £150mln highways contracts

The new contracts include projects for Lancashire County Council and government-owned Highways England

Costain Group PLC (LON:COST) revealed it was awarded “a range of” new highways contracts in the last quarter, totaling £150mln.

The new contracts include a project for Lancashire County Council, where Costain will work on the capacity in the region’s road network as well as connections to residential areas as part of the Preston Western Distributor Road Project.

The delivery phase started this month with completion targeted for early 2023.

Another highlighted contract was awarded by state-owned Highways England to install traffic management technology in the South East.

“An increasing number of companies are looking for consultancy and digital technology expertise, alongside complex programme capabilities, in the delivery of vital projects to support our highways network,” chief executive Alex Vaughan said in a statement.

“Through our integrated service mix we can provide a full value proposition, to deliver much-needed capacity and resilience enhancements across the UK's road network,” he added.

Earlier this year, the infrastructure firm warned full-year profits would be lower than previously expected due to delays with some of its contracts, including the M6 Smart Motorway, as well as the cancellation of the M4 Corridor project around Newport.
