Mkango appoints Africa specialist Senet as lead engineer and project manager for Songwe

SENET has completed more than 500 projects and studies in Africa while also having the largest hydrometallurgical process engineering team on the continent

Mkango Resources Ltd (LON:MKA, TSX-V:MKA) has appointed experienced Africa hand Senet as the lead engineer and project manager for its Songwe rare earths project in Malawi.

AIM-listed Mkango said mineral processing specialist Senet would manage the delivery of a feasibility study for the project, where a number of workstreams are already underway, including mining studies, comminution, flotation, hydrometallurgical test work, and studies in relation to the environmental, social and health impact assessment.

The feasibility study itself is being funded by Talaxis Limited, Mkango’s strategic partner.

"We are very pleased to appoint Senet for the Songwe feasibility study. The selection of Senet was measured against a range of criteria, and its technical capabilities and African experience were key factors in the decision”, said William Dawes, Mkango’s chief executive.

Senet has completed more than 500 projects and studies in Africa while also having the largest and most advanced hydrometallurgical process engineering team on the continent.

Dawes said Mkango now has “the right financial and technical partnerships in place to enable development of Songwe into Africa's leading producer of rare earths".

Mkango’s shares were up 4% at 7.1p in early trading on Monday.
