Morning news wrap: Amec, AstraZeneca, Rio Tinto, Ferrexpo

In the FTSE 100, miner Rio Tinto (LSE: RIO) has formed the Rio Tinto Centre for advanced mineral sorting with the University of Queensland.

Amec (LSE: AMEC) has announced Vision 2015, whose goal is to more than double the group’s earnings per share in 2015.

Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (LSE: AZN) said the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved once-daily SEROQUEL XR extend release tablets as adjunctive (add-on) treatment to antidepressants in adults with major depressive disorder.

In the FTSE 250, London's only listed pure iron ore producer Ferrexpo (LSE: FXPO) announced a new debt facility of US$230 million from Pre-Export Financing.

In the AIM, Ocean Power Tech (AIM: OPT) has contracted Oregon Iron Works of Clackamas to begin construction of its first commercial wave energy PowerBuoy system in North America.

EU operating Rome-based oil junior Mediterranean Oil & Gas (AIM: MOG) said it expected the Ministry of Economic Development of Italy to issue the Guendalina production concession by the end of this year, expecting ENI to start field development activities in January 2010.

Europe focused oil and gas developer Ascent Resources (AIM: AST) said production testing of the PEN-105 well on its Nyrsieg South permit in northeastern Hungary yielded an initial flowrate of over 78,000 cu m (cubic metres) of gas per day.

Zimbabwe focused investor LonZim (AIM: LZM) has raised £1.2 million through a private placement.

African focused company, Lonrho (LSE: LONR), also conducted a placing, raising £16.025 million.
