Junior diamond exploration and development company, Stornoway Diamond Corp (TSX:SWY) reported the results of the second and final tranche of results from a 191 tonne sample taken from the ES1 kimberlite that lies within the Aviat Project, Nunavut.
The Aviat Project is located on the Melville Peninsula in eastern Nunavut, Canada, and is a joint venture between Stornoway Diamond Corp (90%) and Hunter Exploration Group (10%). The ES1 kimberlite is the largest body within the Eastern Sheet Complex which sits in the Aviat Project.
The second tranche returned 213.2 carats of diamonds from 148.3 dry tonnes of kimberlite or an average of 144 carats per hundred tonnes for stones on a +1 DTC screen. The three largest diamonds recovered were 3.99 carats, 1.72 carats and 1.22 carats.
A total of 302.7 carats were recovered from the combined 190.9 tonnes of kimberlite collected from two different areas of the ES1 kimberlite, giving an overall diamond recovery of 159 carats per hundred tonnes.
Stornoway said it now intends to conduct a market valuation exercise of the diamonds, but would wait until the rough diamond market stabilizes.
