Eastern Mediterranean Resources (AIM: EMED) announced further drilling results from its ongoing exploration program at the Biely Vrch gold prospect in Slovakia. The company said that drillhole DVE5 intercepted 331 meters averaging 1.1 grams per tonne gold starting at a depth of 228 meters. The result, when added to earlier results, showed that gold mineralisation starts at surface to a depth of 460 meters. Despite the low grades, the sheer size of the mineralised zone suggests EMED could have a low grade open pit operation.

The company said it would continue drilling, up to 7000 metres, in 2007 to collect enough data to compile a maiden resource estimate. Metallurgical testing of the recovered core samples also suggested that the gold recoveries should be relatively straight forward.
