Petra Diamonds (LON:PDL) has banked US$15.2mln from the sale of a recently discovered 232 carat white diamond.
The precious stone was found last month at the famous Cullinan mine in South Africa, which produced the large diamonds in the British crown jewels.
A multinational diamond company bought the exceptional white diamond, Petra told investors.
The US$15.2mln price equates to US$65,577 per carat.
"We are delighted to have achieved the sales result for this exceptional white stone, which is an outstanding example of the very high quality, large diamonds produced at Cullinan," said chief executive Johan Dippenaar.
Cullinan has a long history of exceptional diamonds. It has produced just under 800 stones weighing more than 100 carats.
It has had over 130 stones weighing more than 200 carats, and around a quarter of all diamonds weighing more than 400 carats.
