Gemfields Resources (AIM: GEM) the Zambian focused gemstone mining group said that it had sold its second parcel of emeralds for US£1.028 million. The parcel contained 385,035 carats of emeralds and the price per carat value was US$2.92, up 57% on the first parcel sale.
Peter Kitchen, CEO, said: "The trend for better quality emeralds is encouraging. As the mine deepens we anticipate that the quality of the emeralds will continue to improve as we move away from the near
surface, lower grade mineralisation.
Shares in Gemfields held steady at 35.5 pence despite the positive news.
