A trading statement from Home Retail Group (LON:HOME), the owner of Argos, is likely to fuel speculation about the state of Britain’s High Street.
Tomorrow’s release will also give an idea of how Argos’s online push is going and the recent launch of its mobile app. There has been criticism of chief executive Terry Duddy for joining the online revolution too late.
Last year saw the company ride the wave of the tablet revolution as it admitted the positive impact sales of iPads had on its results.
The full-year results at the beginning of May provided no real surprises, so traders will be looking closely for any shocks this time round.
It was handbags at Mulberry (LON:MUL) as its creative director Emma Hill stormed out in a row over the handbag designer’s direction on Monday.
Emma Hill, who is behind the popular Alexa and Del Rey bag ranges, has been in charge of the company’s designs since it listed on AIM five years ago.
Since then, the shares have jumped 600% - no wonder then the news spooked investors.
Thursday sees the company unveil its final results, which, if disappointing, could see the stock slide further still.
The market will also react to the news RBS (LON:RBS) chief executive Stephen Hester is stepping down in December.
Hester was charged with leading the restructuring of the bank after it was bailed out by the government at the height of the financial crisis in 2008.
The search for a successor will begin immediately, led by chairman Philip Hampton.
Significant announcements expected: Final results – Mulberry (LON:MUL), Halma (LON:HLMA), Consort Medical (LON:CSRT); Trading statements – Home Retail Group (LON:HOME).
