After a diet of natural resources stocks we’ve decided to serve up something a little different next week.
We’ve got a medical devices group, two biotechnology specialists and a business with the potential to light up India and China.
They are Deltex Medical (LON:DEMG), e-Therapeutics (LON:ETX), Medgenics (LON:MEDG) and Cyan Holdings (LON:CYAN).
The room is filling up quickly, so sign up now to avoid disappointment (register here).
The performance of Medgenics has been nothing short of spectacular in the past year as the shares have rocketed an amazing 260 per cent.
The AIM-quoted biotech has developed a revolutionary protein delivery system called the Biopump that already has three applications - anaemia, hepatitis-C and haemophilia.
The interest in this story was underlined earlier this month when the group unveiled it had raised US$8.4 million in a private placing – no mean feat for a small-cap in today’s markets.
Bringing us up to date with Medgenics’ hugely exciting story will be chief executive Andrew Pearlman.
With a new drug research facility in Oxford and a burgeoning development pipeline e-Therapeutics has got a potentially transformational 18 months ahead of it.
“We seem to be very busy compared to our peers and I think that really is where the interest for investors is,” said chief executive, Professor Malcolm Young in a recent interview.
When the Prime Minister David Cameron opened the company’s new state-of-the-art base he described e-Therapeutics’ work as "fascinating and innovative”.
"Their use of pioneering science has the potential to deliver great results and I very much hope that their treatments are successful,” he added.
This innovative process of finding treatments for diseases including cancer and conditions such as depression is called network pharmacology.
Young describes network pharmacology as a more modern way of looking at what happens when a drug molecule is in the body.
Deltex Medical, meanwhile, has developed a state-of-the monitor, called CardioQ–ODM, which reduces post-operative complications and has the potential of saving the NHS tens of millions of pounds a year.
The successful development of this technology means the challenge today is getting it adopted by the health authorities.
It is made a little easier by the endorsement of all-powerful National Institute for Clinical Excellence, or NICE for short, which said CardioQ should be adopted for use in patients undergoing major or high-risk surgery
The company recently said that sales are increasing and on Thursday CEO Ewan Phillips will update investors on just how well Deltex had performed.
Away from healthcare, Cyan Holdings is a wireless technology company that is leading the way in ‘smart’ metering.
It is currently working on a potentially huge project in India – which could see the firm be part of the push to replace 18 million old electricity meters with modern units that can be read remotely.
Away from the sub-continent it recently landed a significant order in the People’s Republic, which endorsed its strategy to target the world’s emerging economies.
Chairman John Cronin, who will be presenting on Thursday, believes Cyan’s potential could be huge – and his sticking his money where his mouth is.
“I’m a shareholder in my own right, I continue to put in cash and I’m doing more than I’m paid for because I believe in what we’ve got and am very excited about the prospects. The ambition is to take this company to a value of hundreds of millions of pounds in the medium term,” he said in a recent interview with Proactive Investors.
