Botswana Diamonds: Fourie steps down as director; sampling begins in Cameroon

Botswana Diamonds (LON:BOD) said Andre Fourie is stepping down as a director but will continue as a consultant.

The company, which raised £1.51 million last month, to help fund ongoing exploration in Botswana, Cameroon and Zimbabwe, also revealed a new appointment to the board of two of its subsidiaries, as it updated investors on activities.

Kabelo Mohohlo has been appointed to Kukama Mining and Exploration and Atlas Minerals, it said.

Mohohlo, currently the MD of African Alliance Botswana Securities, will oversee the growing presence of the company in Botswana.

Elsewhere, Botswana said that two 100-150 tonne samples had been gathered from its Mobilong licence in the Cameroon and results will follow in the second quarter this year.

Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe, a small bulk sample is ongoing on claims in the Masvingo area, where Rio Tinto (LON:RIO) discovered diamond indicator minerals and kimberlites.

"The purpose of the work on the claims which are 49 per cent owned by BOD and 51 per cent local Zimbabwean ownership, is to confirm the presence of kimberlites and to determine if they are diamondiferous," the company said.

In Botswana, analysis of data is continuing on the firm's 50:50 joint venture with initial results expected in the last half of this year.

Following Fourie's departure, an additional director will be appointed soon, the firm added.
