CPP Group: FSA review could cost firm up to £15 million

CPP Group (LON:CPP) said it had reached agreement with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) over issues surrounding its sale of card protection and identity protection products in the UK.

It comes after the firm's shares were suspended on Monday following communications with the authority about the FSA's investigations into sales practices.

CPP said today it had agreed with the FSA to carry out a past business review in regard to both products, in which the company will contact customers who CPP had approached directly to purchase the products.

The company has also agreed to implement changes, overseen by the FSA, to its renewals process, it said.

"Further, CPP has agreed to certain restrictions on the disposition of assets, including in relation to the payment of dividends," it said, adding that it would not declare or pay any final dividend for the year to December 31 last year.

The firm said it considered the agreement with the FSA to be positive.

"The resolution of these issues allows CPP to renew its focus on evolving towards a more customer centric business," it said.

Based on initial assumptions on its impact, CPP said it estimates that the financial exposure of the group resulting from customer compensation, potential loss of renewal business and costs associated with carrying out the past business review, is expected be in the range of £10 million to £15 million.

"CPP remains in discussions with various stakeholders, including its financing banks and business partners, as to the ultimate impact on the business of the FSA's investigation. Until those discussions have concluded it is expected that the suspension of CPP's shares remains in place," it added.
