Harvest Minerals Limited (LON:HMI) chairman Brian McMaster said the firm expects to start trial mining at its Arapua fertilizer project in Brazil next month.
The last few weeks have been "particularly busy" he told Proactive, and the trial mining permit is likely to be granted shortly to coincide with the completion of civil and infrastructure works.
The group has also completed a 39 hole drill programme to expand the resource and also continuing with its marketing plans.
McMaster said by the firm's estimates within a 150km radius of the project lies farms and other agricultural operations, which demand 3/5mln tonnes per annum of fertiliser, of which the firm hopes to supply 400,000 tonnes.
