Panmure Gordon's O'Connor on takeovers in the tech sector

The fact that Japan’s SoftBank is wanting to buy ARM Holdings PLC (LON:ARM) is no surprise to George O’Connor, technology analyst at Panmure Gordon.  He says the Cambridgeshire-based chip designer is a “cracking UK technology company,” and the deal was assisted by the yen’s 9% post-EU referendum gain against sterling.

O’Connor says other names now being associated with potential takeovers include Imagination Technologies Group (LON:IMG), Spirent Communications (LON:SPT), Aveva Group (LON:AVV) and Sage Group (LON:SGE).

In terms of tech trends for the remainder of 2016, O’Connor says Brexit will impact the sector in terms of currency fluctuations and whether European buyers will now start to favour local providers.
