Silver producer Fresnillo PLC said some workers at the Met-Mex metallurgical complex in Mexico have gone on strike over a dispute regarding  the annual contract review.

"This stoppage currently has no impact on Fresnillo's operations as it is limited to the lead-silver refinery unit and agreements have been reached throughout the rest of the metallurgical complex and the lead smelter and the zinc refinery are operating as usual," the group said in a statement.

Fresnillo was informed by its parent company Peñoles that one of the sections of the union operating at Met-Mex has gone on strike.

It is examining alternative options for concentrate treatment should Met-Mex become unable to receive and process further lead concentrates.
