Scribes at Barclays give credit to the timing and strategy of First Quantum Minerals Ltd (LON:FQM) today and repeat an 'overweight' stance and lift the price target a considerable 62% to 430p from 265p.
"Building copper mines in emerging markets is a risky business, but we believe FQM’s countercyclical investment to develop Cobre Panama has been the right one," notes Ian Rossouw.
The bank has visited all three of the group's core assets over the last few weeks and says the firm has unviled number of pro-active steps to ensure profitability and cash flow of the business are maximized, including the sale of the Kevitsa nickel and copper mine in Finland for $712mln, to minimise risks to the balance sheet.
"Panama is happening. If copper prices dictate it, management could slow activity in 2017 (not 2016). Project financing is actively under consideration, which could help ease liquidity pressures in 2018/19," says the bank.
Elsewhere in brokerland, med tech group Tissue Regenix (LON:TRX) has caught the attention of US house Jefferies, which rates the shares a 'buy', and says orthopaedics will provide the next leg of growth to the company.
"Each business stream appears well on-track and there has been no material deviation from the timelines outlined at the Capital Markets Day in Oct-15.
"Dermapure has now surpassed the $1m revenue mark and with 9 of 11 MACs secured (and promising private payor progress) we expect further acceleration through FY16/17, particularly now the hybrid sales model is well established and senior sales directors are in place. Surgipure received 510k approval last week," said Jefferies.
The broker expects full year 2017 Dermapure/ Surgipure sales of $9mln/$0.6mln, with $2.9mln from Orthopure by 2018. The target price is lifted a penny to 37p from 36p.
In consumer goods, Reckitt Benckiser (LON:RB.) has its target shoved up to 7,600p from 7,000p by European heavyweight Societe Generale. The stance is a repeated 'buy'.
On the downgrade side today, Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) has its target pushed down to 5,435p from 5,735p (but 'buy' repeated) by Deutsche bank.
Societe Generale moved Premier Foods PLC (LON:PFD) down to 40p from 48p and repeated a 'hold'.
In small caps, house broker Cantor was upbeat today on wind turbine tech firm Windar Photonics PLC's (LON:WPO) news of new orders for its WindEYE sensors from two large North American wind farm owners and operators.
Windar said a "well-established" Canadian utility provider with over 2,500 MWs of installed wind farms in Canada and the United Sates has ordered six of the units to be fitted immediately.
Meanwhile, a second order is for five units to be installed immediately has been placed by a US based utility with over 1,000 MWs of installed wind farms.
Whilst small in themselves, these orders represent important traction in the North American market and we believe are a reassuring sign that Windar Systems are gaining wide appeal among operators as well as manufacturers," said the broker which repeated a 'buy' stance and 148p price target.
Analyst Adam Forsyth said he expected more to follow and highlighted that wind energy was likely to see continued growth following the recent decision to extend US tax credits for wind energy out to 2022.
Shares gained 3.45% to stand at 75p each.
