London-listed Gem Diamonds Ltd said it will put the Cempaka mine in Indonesia on care and maintenance from January 1 2009 due to the impact of the declining price of the mine’s rough diamonds since the onset of the global economic recession.
The decision follows a business review the company flagged in its November 17 trading statement.
