BATM launches platform for mobile networks to capitalise on 5G and edge computing

The new ultra-high capacity cloud platform will allow network operators to open their networks to “a new ecosystem and value chain, such as internet-of-things applications”

BATM Advanced Communications Ltd (LON:BVC) has launched a new platform to allow mobile network operators to make use of the fast-growing areas of 5G and multi-access edge computing (MEC).

T-Metro 8104 is a new ultra-high capacity service aggregation and cloud gateway platform that has a small modular design that can be installed outside a telecom cabinet.

The platform is designed to support network operators in hosting content and applications close to the edge of the network, that is nearer to where the data is being generated rather than in a centralised core network.

With the greater speeds and lower latency of 5G mobile networks, the London- and Tel Aviv-listed group said this will allow network operators to open their networks to “a new ecosystem and value chain, such as internet-of-things applications”, increasing “serviceability” and offloading workloads from the network core.

“This latest product release is another step forward in our strategy to provide innovative solutions for the growth area of 5G network infrastructure and MEC,” said chief executive Zvi Marom.

He said the platform had already received interest from several customers, “which we expect to translate to sales this year”.
