Surface soil geochemistry highlights the prospectivity of structures at Abbotts

Cervantes Corporation Limited's (ASX:CVS) regional soil sampling has highlighted the potential of structures running through the Abbotts Gold Project in the Murchison province of Western Australia.

These same structures from the south and southwest host gold deposits on adjacent ground.

The purpose of the survey work was to sample the lithologies to establish a base geochemical signature and as well as test the mobile ion (MI) technique in this area.

MI sampling can be undertaken at up to five times the speed of conventional soil sampling techniques due to the small size of the sample being collected and its independence of the soil horizon.

The mobile ion soil geochemistry survey delineated at least five zones of gold, copper and nickel anomalism.

Cervantes executive chairman Collin Vost said: “Abbotts is shaping up nicely as a greenfields project in a high potential area.

“Decades of neglect by explorers have delivered an opportunity to Cervantes for a discovery.”

The survey was undertaken on five traverses spaced 100 metres apart with sample sites spaced at 50-metre intervals and each subsequent line having samples shifted 50 metres west to form a diamond sampling pattern.

Four lines of samples were submitted for assay using Intertek’s terraleach process, a partial leach method which aims to assay for MI’s that have migrated into the weathering zone.

About 19 elements have been assayed so far.

MI data is assessed by recognising anomalies that are multiples of a background value rather than by absolute grades.

Four of the five zones are associated with faults or shears striking onto Cervantes’ ground and are considered prospective for gold.

Field checking and geological mapping will be undertaken to prioritise possible drilling targets.

Abbotts is less than 16 kilometres west of Silver Lake Resources Limited's (ASX:SLR) Andy Well gold mill with annual capacity of 165,000 tonnes and 35 kilometres north of Westgold Resources Ltd’s (ASX:WGX) Bluebird mill with a capacity of 1.8 million tonnes.
