MGX Minerals Inc (CSE:XMG) has been recognized with an environmental reward for its novel wastewater treatment project, the company said Thursday.

The Vancouver-based company received the Suzanne West Environmental Excellence Award at the 2019 Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta for the project entitled "Powering the Cleantech Economy with Innovation Wastewater Treatment."

The technology uses a series of filtration methods to separate impurities from oil and gas wastewater to yield clean water as a final product.

The system, being installed by engineering partner PurLucid, has been deployed to an oil sands facility in Alberta where it will treat wastewaters typical for steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facilities.

Earlier this year, a first system was deployed at oilsands SAGD operation in Alberta, Canada to process evaporator blowdown water.

"Recognition of MGX's technology at the 2019 GPS is a great endorsement from the oil and gas industry," said MGX CEO Jared Lazerson.

"These areas of cleantech and new energy are experiencing a fundamental shift and we are proud to be a part of transitioning the oil industry towards electrification and continue to bridge traditional energy with the renewable energy economy."
