Chanticleer to bring the plant-based Beyond Burger to its restaurants

Investors cheered the Charlotte-based company's move, sending shares up more 20%

Chanticleer Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BURG) has partnered up with Beyond Meat (NASDAQ:BYND) to bring plant-based burgers to its restaurants.

The Beyond Burger is headed to more 50 restaurant locations including Little Big Burger, American Burger Company, Burgers Grilled Right and Just Fresh. Each brand will be creating its own signature plant-based burger using local ingredients.

The Charlotte-based company also owns the Hooters chain, but the iconic brand is not part of the agreement.

Investors liked the new menu item, boosting shares 26% to $1.92.

“With roughly one-third of consumers identifying as flexitarians, we’re thrilled to partner with Beyond Meat to provide a plant-based alternative to our current menu offerings,” Fred Glick said. “We also understand that consumers are more conscious than ever about making responsible food choices that are not only healthy, but that also take sustainability and ethical considerations into account.”

Flexitarians eat a primarily vegetarian diet, but still occasionally consume meat or fish. The Beyond Burger patty has no GMOs, gluten or soy, has lower saturated fat than regular beef and contains 20 grams of protein.
