Ryanair and Wizz Air report double-digit traffic growth for April

Ryanair reported 13.5mln passengers across its group during the month, up 10% year-on year, while Wizz Air reported that its passenger numbers had risen 19% to 2.7mln

Budget carriers Ryanair Holdings PLC (LON:RYA) and Wizz Air Holdings PLC (LON:WIZZ) have both reported traffic increases for the month of April.

Ryanair reported 13.5mln passengers across its group during the month, up 10% year-on year (YOY), with a load factor of 96%.

The group’s main Ryanair arm saw 5% growth to 13mln passengers, while its Austrian airline Lauda contributed 500,000 passengers.

On a rolling annual basis, the airline reported passenger growth of 9% to 142.3mln with a 96% load factor.

Meanwhile, Wizz Air reported that its passenger numbers had risen 19% YOY to 2.7mln, while its load factor had grown 1.1 percentage points (ppts) to 91.9%.

On a rolling annual basis, the group saw a 16.7% increase in passengers to 35.09mln, with a load factor increase of 1.4 ppts to 92.8%.

In early trading on Wednesday, Ryanair shares were down 1.6% to €12, while Wizz Air shares were 0.4% higher at 3,446p.
