10:20am: TSX sets new all-time high in Tuesday morning trading

Canadian markets started off Tuesday with a mixed outlook as the Toronto Stock Exchange continued to post record-level highs.

As of 10am Tuesday, the TSX was trading at 16,626 points, a new record high. The peak comes less than a week after it had reached its previous record high of 16,612 points, continuing the rally that has seen the exchange soar nearly 16% since the beginning of the year.

Strength in cannabis stocks, energy shares and oil prices are largely to thank for the bull run.

Early movers on the TSX included Largo Resources Ltd (TSE:LGO), up around 7% ahead of its release of 1Q 2019 financials. Others were Bonavista Energy Corporation (TSE:BNP) and Extendicare Inc (TSE:EXE), both up over 3%.

Gold and financial stocks lagged in early morning trading. GMP Capital Inc (TSE:GMP) and TMX Group Limited (TSE:T) were both off around 3%, while Gran Colombia Gold Corp (TSE:GCM) and Gold Standard Ventures Corp (TSE:GSV) lost 3% as well.
