Rimfire Pacific completes aircore and auger drilling around Sorpresa resource at Fifield

Multiple prospects involving hard rock potential for gold, silver, copper and platinum have been established within a 6-kilometre radius of the Sorpresa discovery at Fifield.

Rimfire Pacific Mining NL (ASX:RIM) has completed near-surface auger sampling across five prospects within several kilometres of existing resources at Sorpresa project within the broader Fifield project in western New South Wales.

Similar work completed at the Northern Gold prospect about two kilometres from Sorpresa also indicates substantial upside.

The exploration has provided confidence for the company to progress activities as it seeks to identify gold mineralisation.

Rimfire managing director Craig Riley said: “The recent work assessing near-surface opportunities for further mineralisation in the Sorpresa area continues to provide encouraging results.

“The Sorpresa Basin potential for further zones of mineralisation remains very strong as work progresses.”

There were 367 auger holes for a total of 902 metres completed at Transit, Fortuna, Casuarina Valley, Rabbers Lookout and Wiggies prospects.

Potential connection

At Transit, broad-spaced auger sampling completed in February indicates the eastern mineralised zone has a potential connection to a larger-scale mineral system below the current land surface.

This will be tested with a focused auger sampling program aimed at determining the potential for near-surface structurally controlled vein-hosted mineralisation.

At Fortuna, auger drilling obtained anomalous gold bedrock results that are open to the west in the direction of adjacent Casuarina Valley with further bedrock auger drilling necessary to determine the surface extent of the anomalous zone of gold bedrock geochemistry.

Casuarina Valley is a broad area of around 3 kilometres strike length and 1-kilometre width with a trial coarse-sieved surface sampling program proving successful.

This will allow a more efficient method for assessing the broader prospect.

A pilot test was undertaken at Rabbers Lookout of augering for bedrock samples to assess if the technique was the appropriate method.

Results confirm that the prospect will require bedrock sampling with an aircore drilling technique due to a deeper zone of transported surficial cover across certain areas.

At Wiggies, two pilot lines of auger sampling to obtain bedrock samples was completed with results confirming that this prospect can be further assessed with an auger program.

Northern Gold upside

At the Northern Gold prospect, a total of 88 auger sample holes were drilled for 261 metres as well as an aircore hole of 33 metres depth.

Riley added: “The recent work at the Northern Gold prospect confirms the prospectively of this plus-350-metre strike length zone of historical mining pits for coarse gold.

“It is exciting to have such quality targets which have never had a single drill hole to test the bedrock zones below these surficial workings.

“To think that the deposit style could be something different to Sorpresa while being in such close proximity to the existing gold mineralisation at Sorpresa means positive results could substantially change the potential monetisation pathways for Sorpresa.”

The results support a reverse circulation drilling program at Northern Gold to drill through the fresh bedrock beneath the broad zone of historical gold mining pits and plus 20 to 100ppb anomalous gold results.
