LSE movers: Capita Group, Serco, RBS, International Consolidated Airlines, Essar Energy, Tullow Oil

Capita Group (LON:CPI) led the blue chips, rallying 8%. Fellow outsourcer Serco (LON:SRP) added 3%.

Royal Bank of Scotland (LON:RBS) was the heaviest faller with a loss of nearly 5%.

International Consolidated Airlines Group (LON:IAG) and Essar Energy (LON:ESSR) lost 3.5% and 3% respectively.

Oil & gas

Supermajors BP (LON:BP) and Shell (LON:RDSB) rose 1%.

BG Group (LON:BG) advanced 1.5%.

Tullow Oil (LON:TLW) and Cairn Energy (LON:CNE) tacked on 3% and 2.2% respectively.

Engineering companies Amec (LON:AMEC) and Petrofac (LON:PFC) rose marginally.

Premier Oil (LON:PMO) led the midcaps with a 2% advance.

Soco International (LON:SIA) posted a small gain.

Melrose Resources (LON:MRS) moved in the opposite way, shedding 2.4%.

JKX Oil & Gas (LON:JKX) and Salamander Energy (LON:SMDR) retreated 1%.

Heritage Oil (LON:HOIL) declined marginally, as did service company Wood Group (LON:WG).

Mining

Precious metals

African Barrick Gold (LON:ABG) climbed 1.4%, while most other mining companies declined.

Fellow gold producer Randgold Resources (LON:RRS) silver miner Fresnillo (LON:FRES) and platinum miner Lonmin (LON:LMI) posted small losses.

Midcaps Aquarius Platinum (LON:AQP) and Petropavlovsk (LON:POG) lost 1.9% and 1% respectively.

Hochschild Mining (LON:HOC) did better, posting a small gain.

Base metals

BHP Billiton (LON:BLT) and Anglo American (LON:AAL) were the top performers in the sector, climbing 1.4% and 1% respectively.

Antofagasta (LON:ANTO) and Vedanta Resources (LON:VED) rose marginally.

Eurasian Natural Resources (LON:ENRC) and Rio Tinto (LON:RIO) were in the red with losses of 1.8% and 1.3%.

Kazakhmys (LON:KAZ) and Xstrata (LON:XTA) posted small losses.

London’s only listed pure iron ore producer Ferrexpo (LON:FXPO) was down 2.2%.

Banks, insurance, private equity

Royal Bank of Scotland (LON:RBS) was at the bottom of the banking sector with a loss of nearly 5%.

Barclays (LON:BARC) and Standard Chartered (LON:STAN) dropped 1.5%.

HSBC (LON:HSBA) eased 1.2% and Lloyds (LON:LLOY) declined marginally.

Insurance stocks followed the trend.

Prudential (LON:PRU) lost 2.4%.

RSA Insurance Group (LON:RSA) dropped 1.8%.

Admiral Group (LON:ADM) and Standard Life (LON:SL) declined 1.5%, as did Legal & General (LON:LGEN).

Aviva (LON:AV) and Old Mutual (LON:OML) shed just over 1%.
