Credit checkers Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) and ClearScore have abandoned their plans for a merger as they do not believe the UK competition authorities will approve the deal.
In November, the CMA said the proposed £275mln takeover by Experian could hurt competition, stifle product development and impact customers.
After subsequent talks with the CMA, Experian has concluded it can’t do the proposed acquisition on satisfactory terms but still claims there are substantial customer benefits arising from the proposed transaction.
Analysts said ClearScore's technology platform looks a good fit for Experian as it evolves its global consumer offering while the brands are highly complementary in the UK.
