The work was the first diamond drilling at the prospects

Mawson Resources Ltd (TSE:MAW) unveiled results from the first diamond drill program at prospects at the Western USA (WUSA) project in Oregon.

The resource group is looking at a potential transaction for the property so it can focus on its flagship gold project in Finland where four rigs are now drilling.

Vancouver-based Mawson said that four holes (one abandoned) were completed at Western USA  for 1,033 metres at the Scorpion intermediate-sulphidation and Huckleberry high-sulphidation projects.

Best results hailed from the first and only hole at Scorpion which returned 0.6 metres at 3.25 g/t (grams per ton) gold, 27.3 g/t silver,  6680 ppm arsenic, 485 ppm (parts per million) antimony and 2.8 ppm tellurium from 21.3 metres.

At Huckleberry, a hole hit 15.2 metres at 16.5ppm tellerium, 0.34 g/t silver, 1038 ppm arsenic, 96.4 ppm antimony and from 56.4 metres.

"The first drill program drilling at the WUSA project confirmed a drill discovery and highlighted the prospectivity of Scorpion where highly altered and sulphidic rocks are associated with gold anomalous soils that extend over a 2.2 km long by up to 400-metre-wide area," said Mike Hudson, chairman and CEO at Mawson.

"As only one hole has ever been drilled, the elevated results and extensive soil anomaly at Scorpion warrant follow-up."

Drill permits

Drill permits at the Western USA project are in place for a more extensive drill program.

WUSA lies in the central Western Cascade Ranges in Oregon and consists of an area of interest of 150,500 hectares (exploration agreement area), of which 68,075 hectares of mineral and land rights are held by a single landholder.

Within the exploration agreement area are smaller areas of mineral rights, including the BLM claims held directly by Mawson (142.2 hectares).
