BlueBird Battery Metals Inc (CVE:BATT) (OTCMKTS:BBBMF) has hailed initial sampling results from its Ashburton cobalt project in Western Australia, which showed high-grade mineralization is present at many locations.

A highlight sample included up to 0.421%  or 4,214 ppm (parts per million) cobalt from surface rock chip sampling.

Other results showed 2,095 ppm cobalt and 1,333 ppm of the commodity, which is used in high-tech gadgets and batteries.

"We are delighted by the cobalt grades we have encountered over a large area at Ashburton, in Western Australia," said Nav Dhaliwal, chairman and CEO of Bluebird. "Further sampling is already underway and will focus on a number of additional prospects during the second phase of field work. The scale of the targets across our extensive land holdings is becoming increasingly clear and is very encouraging. This is an under-explored region and we are looking forward to advancing our exploration activity."

Bluebird noted that the results at the Capricorn zone demonstrated cobalt mineralization continues over a strike length of 15km.

Both the first, and now second phases of exploration are focused on a 30 km strike length, which has been identified along the prospective Talga Fault Zone.

Strong correlation with manganese

The company also noted that the cobalt found showed a strong correlation with manganese, with grades of the latter found up to 27.8%.

The Ashburton project consists of four exploration licences 450 km south of Karratha and 950km north of Perth in the Pilbara region, famous for mining.

Cobalt-Manganese mineralization at the Ashburton Cobalt Project is hosted within a dolomitic unit, which extends along the Talga Fault Zone (TFZ).

Shares added 2% to $0.255 on the day.
