Small-Cap Snapshot: Sleep Number shares lively after beating Street's 4Q estimates

Materion, Precision Drilling and Avon Products are also seeing trading action

Shares of Sleep Number Corp (NASDAQ:SNBR) are on the rise Thursday after the mattress company posted fourth-quarter earnings that came in ahead of the Street’s estimates and also predicted that its earnings would soar in 2019. The Minneapolis company posted earnings of $27 million, or $0.81 per share, on sales of $412 million. The results handily beat the consensus of a profit of $0.72 per share on revenue of $408 million. Looking ahead, Sleep Number is forecasting full-year earnings in the range of $2.25 to $2.75 per share.

The stock added 17% to hit $41.98.

Materion Corporation (NYSE:MTRN) also pushed higher after the supplier of engineered materials beat Wall Street’s earnings and revenue expectations. On an adjusted basis, the Ohio company posted a profit of $0.65 per share, which zipped past the consensus of $0.53. Its sales came in at $298.1 million, which was also ahead of the forecast of $292.83 million.

Shares climbed 20.2% to $56.94.

Precision Drilling Corporation (NYSE:PDS) soared too despite posting a loss of $150.1 million in its fourth quarter. On an adjusted basis, its earnings came in at less than one cent, which was better than the loss of $0.05 per share called for by Wall Street. The oilfield services company’s revenue, meanwhile, came in at $323.1 million, which was also ahead of the consensus of $302.1 million. Precision is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

The stock jumped 12.3% to $2.38.

On the list of laggards, meanwhile, is Avon Products Inc (NYSE:AVP), which took a hit after posting sluggish fourth-quarter results due to sales weakness in its key Latin American market. The cosmetics company reported a net loss of $77.6 million, or $0.19 per share. On an adjusted basis, its earnings came in at $0.07 per share on revenue of $1.32 billion, missing the Street’s forecast. Analysts had predicted a profit of $0.08 per share on sales of $1.43 billion.

Shares shed 6.9% to $2.70.
