Lithium Australia completes lithium exploration program at Medcalf

This area has attracted investment from some of the largest lithium companies.

Lithium Australia NL (ASX:LIT) has completed a mapping and sampling program at its Medcalf Prospect within the Lake Johnston Project in Western Australia.

Medcalf lies within the Yilgarn Craton, which hosts major lithium deposits including Earl Grey, Mt Marion and Mt Cattlin.

Lithium Australia first identified lithium pegmatite swarms at Medcalf in 2018.

Notably, the company’s Medcalf and Mt Day prospects present similar geological features to the aforementioned lithium deposits.

The completed January 2019 exploration program included field mapping, rock-chip sampling, and geochemical soil sampling.

Assay results from the samples which have been sent to a Perth-based lab are expected in March 2019.

Rock chip samples from previous exploration in early 2018 produced grades ranging from 3.07% lithium oxide to 4.78% lithium oxide.

Lithium Australia has four business divisions in line with its strategy to be a vertically integrated player in the clean energy sector.

Raw materials represents the company’s portfolio of exploration and resource projects.

Lithium chemicals represents SiLeach® and LieNA®, two low-energy processes to recover lithium from silicates developed by the company.

Battery materials refers to the company’s 100%-owned subsidiary VSPC Limited, which has produced some of the most advanced cathode powders known at its pilot plant in Brisbane.

Recycling refers to efforts aimed at developing a flow sheet for the recovery of all metals from used lithium-ion and alkaline batteries.
