Senseonics Holdings Inc (NYSEAMERICAN:SENS) rallied Thursday after announcing that it has received notice from the Food and Drug Administration that the company’s implantable continuous glucose monitor can be left in place during MRI scanning.
Shares of the Germantown, Maryland, company climbed 8.6% to $2.65 in Thursday’s premarket trading.

“Based on our testing, we have demonstrated that it is safe for patients to leave the Eversense Sensor in place, even when they need to have an MRI,” CEO Tim Goodnow said in a statement. “Now patients using Eversense CGM do not need to worry about an emergency MRI or delay getting a scheduled MRI based on their glucose sensor.”
All other continuous glucose monitors must be removed before an MRI scan, according to Senseonics.
The company’s Eversense continuous glucose monitoring system consists of a fluorescence-based sensor, a transmitter worn over the sensor to facilitate data communication and a mobile app for displaying glucose values, trends and alerts.
