BlueRock Diamonds says operations recommenced at Kareevlei diamond mine after lifting of temporary suspension

The AIM-listed diamond producer, which owns and operates Kareevlei, also reported that the individual involved in the accident is expected to make a full recovery

BlueRock Diamonds PLC (LON:BRD) has announced the recommencement of operations at the Kareevlei Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of South Africa after lifting of the temporary suspension of operations imposed by the country’s mining regulator following an accident at the mine.

The AIM-listed diamond producer, which owns and operates Kareevlei, also reported that the individual involved in the accident is expected to make a full recovery.

As previously stated, the company added, the temporary suspension is not expected to impact upon its production volume guidance for the year.

The group announced on 24 January that it had received the suspension notice from South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources on 22 January.

The suspension notice news came days after BlueRock released an updated report on the inferred mineral resource for the Kareevlei kimberlite cluster.

The report from Z Star Mineral Resource Consultants, commissioned by the firm, updated a 2013 report on the Kareevlei kimberlite cluster, which includes the KV1, KV2, and KV3 pipes at the site.

BlueRock said the primary changes in the new report included the addition of a portion of the KV5 pipe to the mineral resource as well as amendments to the KV2 and KV3 geological models and the depletion of the mined portion of the KV2 resource.
