Futura Medical set to share further safety data

The latest round of tests carried is what’s called impedance testing, which compared MED2005 to two commercially available lubricants used for sexual intercourse

Futura Medical PLC (LON:FUM) shares rose on Monday after the firm revealed it is set to share data further confirming its erectile dysfunction drug is safe for female sexual partners.

Tim Holland, the company’s director of clinical development, will be making a poster presentation at the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) Congress in Slovenia next month.

In addition to the previously-reported information from a phase IIa study, which indicated MED2005 had a “favourable” safety profile for women, Futura will deliver findings from testing carried out late last year.

In the 2016 trial, there were mild adverse effects in 0.2% of cases.

The latest round of tests carried what’s called impedance testing, which compared MED2005 to two commercially available lubricants used for sexual intercourse.

They assessed the likelihood the gel might aid the transmissions of sexually transmitted infections.

“Results showed no significant difference in impedance between MED2005 and the two lubricants,” Futura said.

“These data are strongly suggestive that there is likely to be no increased risk of STIs being transferred to sexual partners, as a result of disruption to local tissue, when using MED2005 compared to the two lubricants also tested.”

The ESSM meeting takes place from February 14-16 Ljubljana, Slovenia.

In mid-morning trading, Futura Medical shares were 6.7% higher at 13.88p.
