Marmota Ltd (ASX: MEU) has received detailed 1-metre assay results from last September’s drilling program at the Aurora Tank project in South Australia, including a bonanza grade of 88 g/t.
The new results from Goshawk prospect yielded high grades, including the 88 g/t, which was only 38 metres from surface and near the company’s best previous 1-metre intersection of 93 g/t.
High-grade gold results
Importantly, the 88 g/t is not just a 1-metre highlight but is followed down hole by high-grade gold averaging 24 g/t gold over 5 metres.
The intersection is open in a number of directions and is accompanied by elevated arsenic, which is considered to be a pathfinder for primary gold.
Potential for low-cost, open pit mining
The results have increased the lateral footprint of gold mineralisation that is close to the surface and potentially amenable to low-cost, open pit mining.
The RC program consisted of 24 holes and seven holes reconnaissance holes outside the Goshawk area.
Tree sampling guides drill program
The company was guided to the location using a new biogeochemical program utilising tree sampling.
Due to the tree root system that extends underground, leaves provide a measure of possible gold anomalism and provide an additional perspective to calcrete sampling.
Under this program, tree leaves were collected from suitable species over the targeted area.
Further results
Marmota is waiting on December assay results from its latest tree-sampling program.
This saw new biogeochemical samples collected in possible extensions to the Goshawk area.
It is anticipated that the December results will help guide the next stage of drilling at Aurora Tank.
