Anglo American's De Beers sells US$540mln of diamonds

De Beers posted a 18% year-on-year rise in rough diamonds sales for in its final sales cycle of the year

Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) said its majority-owned De Beers Group sold US$540mln worth of rough diamonds in its tenth and final sales cycle of 2018.

The amount sold in the cycle ended December 17 represents a 22% increase on the US$442mln sold in the ninth cycle of this year and an 18% rise on the US$455mln sold the same period a year ago.

"De Beers Group's rough diamond sales during the final cycle of the year continued to be in line with expectation ahead of the all-important retail selling season as cutting and polishing factories in India restarted their operations following the Diwali holiday,” said Bruce Cleaver, chief executive of De Beers.
