Black Friday shoppers are a hearty bunch, waking up before sunrise to be first in line at their favorite stores, a closed metal gate the only thing standing between them and deep discounts on the perfect holiday gifts.

Not everyone has the grit to be a true blue Black Friday shopper, but there were plenty of deals to be had for those who stayed home.

Black Friday shoppers spent a total of $6.22 billion in online sales this year, about 24% more than last year, according to Adobe Analytics.

Around 164 million Americans were expected to go shopping, either in-store on online, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to a National Retail Federation survey.

US consumers are expected to spend as much as $721 billion this holiday season, about 5% higher than last year, as per the NRF.

Shoppers flocked to e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) on Black Friday. The retailer said it sold more than 1 million toys and more than 700,000 fashion items in just the first nine hours of Black Friday.

Top sellers include the Echo Dot, the Fire 7 Tablet, the Instant Pot and The Harry Potter Complete 8-Film Collection on Blu-Ray.

But Cyber Monday shoppers may give Black Friday shoppers a run for their money, expecting to spend as much as $7.8 billion today.
