Kore Potash identifies potential for up to 75% resource boost at Sintoukola

The potential upgrade is located at two new exploration targets, Kola South and DX North

Kore Potash PLC (ASX:KP2 LON:KP2) has identified a possible 775mln tonnes of additional sylvinite at its Sintoukola project in Congo-Brazzaville/Republic of Congo.

The potential upgrade is located at two new exploration targets, Kola South and DX North, that are adjacent to the Kola and Dougou Extension sylvinite deposits.

“Potential identified to increase the company's sylvinite deposits to a total of between 1.5 and 1.9 billion tonnes (Bt) of sylvinite with an average grade of between 34 and 37% KCl,” said the statement.

Most of the potential lies at DX North, where there a potential of between 320-600Mt at grades of between 30%-38%.

Kola South, meanwhile, has between 95 and 175Mt at a higher average grade of 34%-42%.

The current resource at the Kola and the Dougo Extension is 1.08bln tonnes at an average grade of 35.5% KCl (sylvinite).

On the lower estimates alone that would still mean a near-40% increase in the resource at Sintoukola, though Kola said that exploration targets are not a quantified mineral resource and the estimates are based just on drilling, 2D seismic data and understanding of the prospect from carried out elsewhere.

The new areas would help its understanding of the potential scale of the opportunities in the Sintoukola Project area, said the company.

Brad Sampson, chief executive, added: "Quantifying the potential scale of the Sylvinite and Carnallite deposits of the Sintoukola project area is important and allows the company to assess the strategic options available."

Kore is reviewing a definitive feasibility study for Sintoukola delivered last month by a consortium of French engineering groups.
