Arev Brands International Ltd (CSE:AREV) is making progress on its joint development project with Alternative Extracts Inc, releasing its research on the effect of terpene blends when applied to first-degree burns and insect bites.

Terpenes, the organic hydrocarbons produced by marijuana, give the plant its aromatic oils and flavor.

A patient participating in the study was a 50-year old woman with a history of keloid formation, or a raised scar caused by an excess of collagen. Within 4 days of the burn, the blisters were gone and no infection developed.

“This collaboration continues to produce highly effective compounds and formulations. Terpenes have demonstrated to play an important role in an increasing number of natural health and medical products,” said Alternative Extracts’ Chief Science Officer Adrian Wade in the company’s press release.

Arev cautioned that while the results were encouraging, a formal study with a wider sample population will be conducted in the coming months to confirm the results.

The company recently completed its purchase of Bare Topicals, a brand of cannabis-based skin creams, from Alternative Extracts Inc for C$160,000 in stock.

Shares of the Vancouver-based company were up about 2.5% to $0.40 in Wednesday morning trading.
