Centrica appoints chairman-designate from Weir Group

The FTSE 100-energy group said Charles Berry would be appointed initially as a non-executive director before taking over from Rick Haythornthwaite on 21 February 2019

British Gas owner Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) has appointed the current chairman of engineering firm Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) as its own chairman-designate.

The FTSE 100-energy group said Charles Berry would be appointed initially as a non-executive director before taking over from outgoing chairman Rick Haythornthwaite on 21 February 2019.

Berry is currently chairman of FTSE 250 firm Weir and had previously held chairman roles at fellow index constituents Senior PLC (LON:SNR) and Drax Group PLC (LON:DRX).

He also held executive roles at Scottish Power PLC and was responsible for power generation, commodity trading, energy retailing and renewable energy in the UK together with board responsibility for energy regulation.

In late-morning trading Wednesday, Centrica shares were steady around 149.7p, while Weir shares were up 3.1% at 1,603p.
