Ofcom opens probe into BT Group and Vodafone UK mobile coverage errors

Ofcom said it had found errors in the coverage data provided by Vodafone and EE relating to 4G and 3G mobile coverage

UK telecoms regulator Ofcom said it had launched an investigation to establish whether Vodafone (LON:VOD) and BT Group’s (LON:BT.A) EE provided accurate information in response to requests for 3G and 4G mobile coverage predictions.

The regulator said it had opened separate investigations into the two groups based on similar problems.

Ofcom said it had found errors in the coverage data provided by Vodafone, which meant that its 4G coverage was underestimated, especially in rural areas.

The regulator also found that EE’s coverage data showed that its 3G coverage was over-predicted in rural areas.

In late afternoon trade, shares in BT Group were 1.17% down at 223.35p while Vodafone stock was trading 1% lower at 160.32p.
