Applied DNA Sciences unveils tagging system for tracking large volumes of cannabis and hemp

The company’s new design for larger operations will offer growers an efficient way to tag batches of cannabis or hemp

Security and authentication technology group Applied DNA Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:APDN) is introducing an additional system to tag larger volumes of cannabis and hemp for security purposes.

The Stony Brook, NY, company’s new design for larger operations will offer growers an efficient way to tag batches of cannabis or hemp.

A grow facility’s dry or staging rooms can be fitted with the company’s moveable and expandable POD tagging systems. The cannabis or hemp in the room for staging or drying can quickly be tagged without slowing down operations during harvest.

Applied DNA is teaming up with TheraCann International Benchmark Corporation, a Canadian cannabis technology company, to offer its molecular tag and trace system. The system will be introduced as part of TheraCann’s ETCH Biotrace solution, which combines molecular tagging with TheraCann’s portfolio of licensing, project management, security, cultivation and analysis services.

“The expanded portfolio supports and enhances the ETCH Biotrace brand and strategy to offer a comprehensive end-to-end solution to tag, test and track from source to retail shelf,” noted Jason Warnock, TheraCann’s CEO in a statement.

Applied DNA Sciences provides molecular-based security and authentication technology that protects products, brands and entire supply chains from theft, counterfeiting and fraud.

Applied DNA shares jumped 8.9% in Tuesday’s afternoon session to $1.59.
