Shares in FTSE 100 aerospace engineer Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR.) turned downwards in lunchtime trading Wednesday after a fault with one of its engines caused an Iberian airlines flight to divert.
The Iberia flight from New York to Madrid was forced to divert to Boston 90 minutes after take-off and make an emergency landing due to a technical fault in one of Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engines that powered the Airbus A350 aircraft.

The XWB is the sixth generation of the Trent engine series and has been used exclusively by the A350 since the aircraft was launched in 2015.
The in-flight shutdown is the second such incident that has occurred across the Trent XWB fleet, and follows other issues with the company’s Trent 1000 and Trent 900 engines that the firm has estimated will cost around £450mln in 2018 and 2019.
Shares were down 2.1% at 954.4p.
