Trek Metals Ltd (ASX:TKM) has reported initial results from diamond drilling at its Kroussou Zinc-Lead Project in Gabon.
Results so far have confirmed the potential for a large-scale, near-surface open pit discovery, as well as demonstrating continuity down-dip and along strike.
The 2,000-metre drilling program is focusing on the Nzahou target within the Dikaki channel and is around 90% complete.
‘Confident that Dikaki is not alone’
Highlighted intercepts include: 20.8 metres at 4.2% zinc-lead from 2.4 metres, including 4.7 metres at 9.7% from 13.6 metres; 12.7 metres at 4.6% from 25.1 metres, including 3.5 metres at 9.8% from 34.3 metres; and 15.1 metres at 6.1% from 0.7 metres, including 6 metres at 10% from 1 metre.
Trek managing director Bradley Drabsch said the results were even better than they had initially anticipated.
He said: “The amount of metal that is clearly present within the Dikaki channel bodes very well for our team to continue to build the project and ultimately present a substantial resource to the market.
“As we step out from the Dikaki Channel into other areas along the basin contact, we remain very excited and confident that Dikaki is not alone and the potential for numerous large zinc and lead orebodies is clear.”
Zinc potential underestimated
Trek recognised early on that historic work completed by the French Geological Survey (BRGM) focused solely on shallow lead mineralisation and possibly underestimated Kroussou’s zinc potential.
Previous drilling and the ongoing program by Trek have demonstrated this potential, showing mineralised widths much broader than the selective sampling conducted by BRGM had indicated.
The latest drilling has shown that almost the entire package of channel sediments at Dikaki is mineralised with unconstrained intervals of 52.7 metres at 1.46% zinc-lead and 68.8 metres at 1.1% zinc-lead.
Drilling continues
Drilling is continuing both within and outside the Dikaki channel, with holes completed within the Bimbome, Bouambo East, Bouambo South and Niambokamba channels.
Initial geological observations from these holes are in line with expectations and Trek remains confident of the successful identification of new mineralisation centres along the basin margin.
Petrographic descriptions from numerous ore grade samples from Dikaki have indicated that the minerals are predominantly galena (lead) and low-iron sphalerite (zinc).
A metallurgical sample has been collected and submitted to METS Engineering for initial test work.
