BT broadband upgrade leads to contract win for Toople

Topple has signed a new contract with an unnamed reseller based in South East England

BT Group PLC’s (LON:BT.A) upgrade of the UK’s broadband infrastructure has led to a contract win for telecoms firm Topple PLC (LON:TOOP).

Topple, which provides telecoms services to small and medium enterprises in the UK, has signed a new contract with an unnamed reseller based in South East England.

Under the deal, Toople will provide next-generation broadband and cloud-based telephony services for two of the reseller's UK high street retail customers, which both have multiple sites across the nation.

The contract win comes on the back of BT’s plans to replace the UK’s ageing copper lines with fibre optics to improve internet speeds. BT's network division Openreach aims to bring superfast broadband to three million premises by 2020.

The copper lines that are currently being used by the reseller’s retail customers will cease operating in 2025, to be replaced with fibre broadband and voice over internet protocol telephony.

Toople said the contract is expected to provide “significant revenue opportunities”.

"This contract win demonstrates that Toople is excellently placed to take advantage of the opportunities created by BT's migration from legacy products to new technologies,” said chief executive Andy Hollingworth.

“From the launch of Toople, all the company's propositions have been built on next generation technology and have been future proofed to take advantage of the BT migration and to ensure that Toople is well placed.”

Shares in Toople jumped 25% to 0.25p in morning trading.
