Tonix Pharmaceuticals shares jump on favorable data related to PTSD drug

Based in New York City, Tonix is developing Tonmya, which has been granted a Breakthrough Therapy designation from the FDA, as a bedtime treatment for PTSD

Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) got a boost Tuesday after reporting that the retrospective analysis of previous data suggests its drug Tonmya effectively treats certain cases of post-traumatic stress disorder.

New data suggests that participants with PTSD in Tonix’s previous Phase 3 study who took Tonmya saw improvement if they experienced trauma less than or equal to nine years prior to the screening. In contrast, there was no benefit to the participants who experienced trauma more than nine years prior to screening.

Tonix shares, which are thinly-traded, climbed 8.4% to US$1.36 in response to the news.

Future studies will focus on PTSD patients with more recent trauma, Tonix said.

“The finding that treatment response to Tonmya in the [Phase 3 Honor study] decreases as the time since trauma gets longer, suggests that military service members and veterans with PTSD are transitioning from a Tonmya-treatment responsive state to a non-responsive state after approximately nine years,” Tonix CEO Seth Lederman said in a statement.

The Phase 3 HONOR study of Tonmya in military-related PTSD was stopped last month due to patients seeing an inadequate change from the base line in the severity of their PTSD symptoms compared to a placebo.

Tonix is presenting a poster today at the 2018 Military Health System Research Symposium in Kissimmee, Florida, which includes the more favorable retrospective analyses from the original Phase 3 study evaluating Tonmya, which is also known as TNX-102 SL.

PTSD is a condition, often stemming from military stints, that affects 11mln adults in the US and is characterized by chronic disability and inadequate treatment options.

Based in New York City, Tonix is developing Tonmya, which has been granted a Breakthrough Therapy designation from the US Food and Drug Administration, as a bedtime treatment for PTSD. The company specializes in producing drugs to treat central nervous system conditions.
