Airea shares jump as it sees improved shareholder returns and posts first-half profit growth

Airea chairman Martin Toogood said the group is "pleased by the progress we have made in driving sales growth" in the first half

Airea PLC (LON:AIEA) shares jumped as the floor coverings maker said it was well-positioned to generate improved shareholder returns and reported a 31% increase in first-half profits.

The group said the closure of its loss-making carpets business Ryalux would lead to greater shareholder returns.

It posted profit attributable to shareholders of £1.3mln for the first six months of the year, up from £1.2mln a year ago. Revenue rose to £9.1mln from £8.1mln, boosted by new products.

"We are pleased by the progress we have made in driving sales growth in the ongoing commercial flooring operation with a strengthening portfolio of products," said chairman Martin Toogood.

"Sales growth in our markets requires hard work and commitment over a sustained period of time, and we remain determined to build on the progress made.

"Uncertainties remain, including the outcome of Brexit negotiations; however, as a UK manufacturer with a strengthening position in the UK and internationally, we are well placed to mitigate risks and take advantage of growth opportunities."

Airea maintained its interim dividend at 1.75 each.

Shares rose 15.6% to 63p in morning trading.
