BT Group plc (LON:BT.A) has reportedly approached the former boss of regulator Ofcom, Lord Carter, to become its new chief executive.
Carter, who is currently chief executive of exhibitions operator Informa, is being considered as a possible replacement for Gavin Patterson when he leaves later this year, Sky News reported.
Analysts have previously touted Carter as a potential candidate to take over the reins.
It is understood that Carter has been approached about the job but is not a candidate yet or part of any recruitment process.
The uncertainty surrounding the future leadership of BT has been a concern for some investors since Patterson announced his departure in June.

New chairman, Jan du Plessis, is said to be hoping to name the chief executive by October, according to Sky.
Another potential candidate is Olaf Swantee, the former head of mobile phone operator EE, which BT took over three years ago.
Alison Kirkby, chief executive of Swedish telco Tele2, is also a possible contender.
The person who takes the helm will be shouldered with the huge task of carrying out Patterson’s strategy that includes cutting costs, meeting new regulation imposed by Ofcom, addressing the competition and upgrading the UK’s broadband infrastructure.
Having Carter as its boss would help BT strengthen its relationship with Ofcom following a few ups and downs.
