Lefroy Exploration Ltd (ASX:LEX) has commenced a reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Lucky Strike prospect within its Lefroy Gold Project near Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia.
The 10-hole step-out RC program will evaluate the down-dip extension of high-grade mineralisation intersected in multiple banded iron formation (BIF) units.
Hole depths will range from 180-220 metres, to test the gold system to about 150 metres from surface over a strike length of 120 metres.
Part of major drilling campaign
Lefroy managing director Wade Johnson said the deep RC drill program was at an exciting stage of exploration at Lucky Strike.
Johnson said: “We have integrated detailed gravity and magnetic surveys with the results from our drilling programs in a 3D model to develop a high-impact drill test into the core of the high-grade BIF-hosted system.”
“This program, and recent drilling at Capstan, is the commencement of a major campaign of district drill-based exploration at a portfolio of targets along the Mt Monger Fault over the coming 6 months.”
Grades of more than 5 g/t previously intersected
Lucky Strike is about 5 kilometres northwest along strike of the high-grade Lucky Bay open pit mined by Silver Lake Resources (ASX:SLR) during 2015.
It is also 5 kilometres from Silver Lakes’ Randalls processing plant, an operational 1.2 million tonnes per annum gold treatment facility.
High-grade gold mineralisation over 5 g/t has been intersected in BIF host rocks in several phases of early stage RC and diamond drilling since November 2017.
The Lefroy Gold Project consists of two tenement packages, the wholly-owned Eastern Lefroy tenements which includes Lucky Strike, and the Western Lefroy joint venture tenements that adjoin the St Ives Mine operated by Gold Fields Ltd (JSE:GFI).
Gold Fields can earn up to a 70% interest in the Western Lefroy tenements by spending a total of $25 million on exploration activities within 6 years of the commencement date.
