GlaxoSmithKline appoints HSBC bean counter on pay, perks package worth up to £3.4mln

Iain Mackay joins the international drugs giant next January

Drug-maker GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) has appointed HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) bean-counter Iain Mackay as its new chief financial officer on a pay and perks package that could be worth up to £3.4mln.

Mackay, who takes over from the retiring Simon Dingemans, will receive a base salary of £850,000. This figure could be matched by the bonus payment, depending on performance, while there is a long-term incentive scheme that could net him as much as £1.7mln.

The new CFO joins GSK in January.

Chief executive Emma Walmsley said: “As a proven CFO of a complex, regulated global organisation, he brings tremendous finance experience and will be a great addition to the team.

“He is a strong leader with a track record of driving cost, cash and capital allocation discipline to deliver strategy.

“These capabilities will be vital as we continue to implement our innovation, performance and trust priorities for the benefit of patients and shareholders."
